What is Orthodontics?

ORTODONTIOrthodontics is the discipline of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of irregularities of the teeth, jaw bones and the face. This discipline offers solutions to patients with malocclusions.

An Orthodontist is a dentist that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. In order to become an Orthodontist, one must graduate from the faculty of dentistry and later major or attend a doctorate program in orthodontics which can last up to four years or more.

During this education, an Orthodontist gains the necessary knowledge to control the movement of teeth which is generally referred to as orthodontics and to guide the development of the form and shape of the face (this approach to treatment may be referred to as facial orthopedics). Only the dentists who have successfully completed this major or doctorate program can use the title orthodontist.
